How to Reduce Stress during SSC CGL Exam Preparation?

Exam stress is something that we've been dealing with since our childhood. Due to the fear of underperformance, we start overthinking about the exam, which leads to anxiety, depression, and finally, poor performance on the exam day.

SSC CGL Exam Preparation: 4 Things You Must Do to Reduce Stress and Anxiety

Since you're already dealing with stress, you know how it's hindering your daily study plan. To add more, your mental health can be in jeopardy if you continue fighting with yourself in your own mind. Alongside, improper self-management can also cause stress during the SSC CGL exam. The best way to deal with this stress is to gear up with your books, confidence, efforts and do the following. Have a look.

Prepare a Timetable and Strictly Follow It

You probably have already prepared a timetable, but is it customized according to your strong and weak points? Are you strictly following it every day? Well, sticking to a detailed study plan is undoubtedly beneficial. It helps you to finish the whole syllabus way before the exam day as well as renders you a sense of accomplishment while fueling your confidence.

However, only creating a study plan won't work if you're not doing it according to the subject's priority level. For instance, you're not good at Quantitative Aptitude, so you have to practice at least one question set every day for a better hold on the subject. Hence, your daily study routine must have a slot each day assigned to this subject only.

Another example, subjects like General Awareness require daily go through to ensure you don't skip a single recent event in order to score at least 40+ out of 50. Hence, you have to dedicate a slot from your day-to-day study plan to such subjects.

Follow a Healthy Diet & Exercise Regularly

"A healthy mind resides in a healthy body"- Yes, as long as you're in good health, stress and anxiety can't take you in the grasp. Just like your daily study plan, follow a daily diet chart strictly. Try to add food items that are rich in protein and vitamins to this chart. Also, add vegetables and fruits as much as possible and cut out the carbs.

Most importantly, try to discard caffeine from your diet chart as it doesn't really help in reducing stress [if you've heard otherwise, consider it as a myth.] However, drink plenty of water as well to make sure that your body can reflux the toxin easily.

Only maintaining a good diet won't help if you don't exercise. At least 30 minutes of exercise will keep you productive throughout the day. It's because, while exercising, endorphin hormone gets released in your body, which keeps the stress away.

Don't Procrastinate

Procrastination is a common issue found in most students. We keep piling up the notes and question sets until the exam day is approaching. This is not a good thing to do, especially if you're dealing with the fear of lack of preparation. However, you need to create a to-do list if you wish to avoid procrastination.

Yes, prioritizing your tasks and completing those within your previously set time will boost your confidence. Talking about the SSC CGL syllabus, students mainly procrastinate working on English vocabulary and GK. If you also do the same, shift your focus immediately as these sections are going to increase your whole score with assured marks.

Procrastination is referred to avoiding something at present and keeping it to finish later due to laziness or just lack of will. The whole thing becomes stressful as soon as you come on the verge of deadlines. To eliminate this issue, you must not switch between tasks. Alongside that, try to complete one task at a time to ensure you don't leave it in the mid-way.

Meditate & Improve Your Time Management Skills

Whenever you recognize that you're overthinking and your heart is beating faster due to anxiety, just close your eyes and take a deep breath. Deep breathing stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system that helps us to relax immediately. If you meditate in the early morning, it will reflux all tensions and keep your mind fresh, which is essential for performing well in the examination.

However, the SSC CGL exam is of 75-minute duration. You need to stay calm to attempt all the questions in such a short time. The major contribution of meditation is that it will help you to remain sorted and take decisions easily without panicking, though time management is a crucial factor here.

Once you hone the time management skills, it will help you to stay focused for longer hours and compensate for the need of the hour. That means you won't be stuck at a single question and attempt others while discarding the thought of that difficult question completely. And a sorted mind can do that only.

What's More? Stay Positive!

Staying positive is the key to success. Don't be too hard on yourself. Always remember, every little completion is an achievement. So, reward yourself accordingly to keep performance anxiety at bay, stay motivated, and finally score well in your upcoming SSC CGL exam. Best of luck!
