Indian women’s cricket team captain batter Mithali Raj announced retirement from all forms of international cricket. She retires as the leading run-scorer in women's ODIs.
She represented India in 232 matches, scoring 7805 runs at an average of 50.68. She holds on to her seventh position in the recent ICC Women's ODI batting rankings.
Cricketer Mithali Raj made her debut for India in 1999 and has a career spanning 23 years. During which she smashed seven consecutive 50s in One-Day International matches and led India in four World Cups.
In July 2022, a biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’ starring Bollywood star Taapsee Pannu will be released. It is a biopic on Mithali Raj. the film was directed by Srijit Mukherji and written by Priya Aven.
Mithali Raj ended her career as the leading run-scorer in the ODIs having amassed 7805 runs in 232 matches at an average of 50.64 including 7 centuries and 64 fifties. Mithali also has 699 runs to her name in 12 Test matches while aggregating 2364 runs in T20 internationals in 89 matches.
She was named the captain of the Indian team in 2004. In 155 matches as a captain across all formats, Mithali led her side to 89 wins.
Harmanpreet Kaur was named India women's team captain for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.
