IMPORTANT DAYS, BOOKS & AUTHORS
World Brain Tumor Day is being observed on the 8th of June every year since 2000 with the objective to raise public awareness and educate people about brain tumors, as 500 new cases are diagnosed with brain tumors every day worldwide.
If any abnormal cells developed within any part of the brain, then it is known as a brain tumor. There are two main types of tumors namely, malignant and benign tumors.
This day was first observed by the German Brain Tumor Association, a non-profit organization. A malignant brain tumor is very common in Germany as more than 8,000 people suffer from these diseases only in Germany. This is the most common type of cancer among children.
In India, the Union Government has introduced the National Cancer Control Programme with the objectives of prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis and treatment including palliative care in the end-stage.
Some common symptoms of brain tumors are headaches, seizures, problems with vision, vomiting, and mental changes.
