The Khelo India Youth Games-2021 began in Haryana and would continue till June 13, 2022. At the opening ceremony of this sports festival, Union Home Minister was the Chief Guest.
This is the fourth edition of the game. In this edition, about 25 sports events (including five indigenous games) will be organized at five venues namely Panchkula, Ambala, Shahabad, Chandigarh and Delhi. The newly added indigenous games were Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta, Malkhamb and Yogasana.
The sports festival was organized by the state government of Haryana in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The state government approved Rs.250 crores for organizing the sports events.
For the first time in 'Khelo India' history, Haryana has organized a torch relay across the state. Earlier in the month of May 2022, the mascot and the logo of Khelo India Youth Games-2021 were launched in Panchkula.
Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) is the annual national-level sports event conducted under two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students. The event was conducted in 2018 for the first time. The sports will identify the top 2 sportspeople for each sport and they will be given an annual scholarship of INR 500,000 for 8 years. The Games will play an important role in taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream mission.
