Vietnam had successfully developed a vaccine to administer to pigs to fight African Swine Fever (ASF). This is the World’s first African Swine Fever vaccine developed and it will be a shield for hog-raising industry and pig production globally.
Since 2019, the country developing a vaccine in partnership with United States experts. The safety and efficacy of the vaccine were confirmed by the Agricultural Research Service under the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
It becomes the first country to commercially produce and export the vaccine for the ASF. The date of export was not confirmed yet.
The disease was first detected in Vietnam in February 2019 and forced the country to cull around 20% of its hog herd last year.
The Indian state government of Mizoram would soon declare the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), which has killed more than 37,000 pigs, as 'state disaster’. To prevent the outbreak from further spreading in the state, at least around 14000 pigs have also been culled during the same period.
ASF is a highly contagious viral disease of pigs was originated in Africa before spreading to Europe and Asia and has killed hundreds of millions of pigs globally. It is a different disease from swine flu and it is harmless to humans.
