Asia University Rankings 2022 was Published by the Times Higher Education

The Times Asia University Rankings 2022 was published by the Times Higher Education (THE) and comprises 616 universities from 31 countries and territories. The list highlights the dynamism and strength of higher education across the continent.

The list was topped by Tsinghua University followed by Peking University. Both universities were in China.

India is the third most-represented country with 71 of its institutions figuring in the list. The number was raised from 63 last year. Japan is the most-represented nation with 118 institutions on the list followed by China.

Among the Indian Institutes, the list was topped by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. It secured 42nd rank. It has slipped from the 37th rank the last year's list. The other three institutes in the top 100 in the list are the Mysore-based JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, IIT Ropar and IIT Indore which secure 65th, 68th and 87th ranks respectively.

There are 17 Indian universities in the top 200, which was declined from 18 in the last year’s list.

The seven first-generation Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) including Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur and Madras continue to stay out of the list. These institutes decided not to participate in the global rankings because of data discrepancy and lack of transparency.
