MHA and SECI Sign MoU to Realize India’s Green Energy Initiative

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for the installation of Solar Rooftop Photo Voltaic Power Plants. The agreement was signed in New Delhi, in the presence of the Union Home Secretary and Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The agreement was signed to support the Government of India’s efforts to promote renewable energy in the country to achieve a carbon-neutral economy.

As a first step, a proposal was initiated by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to install Solar Energy Panels on the campuses of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the National Security Guard (NSG).

On the campus of CAPFs & NSG, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will install the solar panel to generate 71.68 Megawatts of power. As of March 2022, the Indian government has installed renewable energy projects of 152 GW capacity. The government is about to achieve the fixed target of generating 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by the end of 2022.

Earlier, in December 2021, the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SECI for the development of renewable energy-based power and other Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) projects.
