Bangladesh will conduct the country’s first-ever Digital Census as part of the 6th Population and Housing Census-2022 of the country. The census will be conducted between the 15th and 21st of June of this year.
The census process was initiated by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) after a delay due to the corona pandemic. In the census process, more than 3.7 lakh enumerators, 64 thousand supervisors and 4,500 officials will be involved.
The census activities would be conducted through a web-based integrated census management system with real-time monitoring of the process. The data collected from the citizens of the country will be protected through encryption of all personal information.
The data of the Population and Housing Census-2022 will be collected using Geographic Information System-based digital maps from the field level. Detailed demographic and socio-economic information will be collected during the census.
Enumerators will use the Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method to capture data on the digital tabs. For this purpose, the government has procured approximately four lakh digital devices.
Following data will be collected during the census - the number of households, drinking water availability, toilet and power facility, source of fuel for cooking, remittance, age of household members, gender, marital status, income and education.
The country's first Population and Housing Census was held in 1974 followed by 1981, 1991, 2001 and 2011.
