Under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, the Union Government has launched Swachh Survekshan - SS-2023. This is the Eighth Edition launched virtually by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at the event in New Delhi.
It was launched virtually by Mr.Manoj Joshi, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. This edition SS-2023 survey will be conducted in four phases, instead of the three phases in earlier editions.
This edition was organized with the theme of ‘Waste to Wealth’ as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan- 2023 is curated towards achieving circularity in waste management.
The previous 7th edition of Swachh Survekshan (SS-2022), titled "Azadi @ 75 Swachh Survekshan 2022," was a watershed Survekshan because it coincided with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This survey included 4,355 cities, 85,860 wards, 2.12 lakh locations visited, 5.5 lakh documents assessed, 1.14 crores in citizen feedback recorded, 4.77 lakhs in citizen validation, 23.38 lakhs in photos and videos collected as evidence, and 17.24 lakhs data points collected.
The ‘Swachh Survekshan- 2023’ survey would give priority to the principle of 3 R’s- Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
Swachh Survekshan has emerged as the largest Urban sanitation survey in the world. It was observed that whenever the Swachh Survey starts, there is an enhanced level of activities undertaken by the cities and cities are visibly cleaner during the months the survey is conducted.
The Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 was launched in 2021 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective to create garbage-free cities across the country.
