Under the Presidency of the People’s Republic of China, the 8th edition of the BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting was held virtually. The meeting was attended by all the member countries of BRICS.
Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change participated in the meeting as the country’s representative and delivered a speech.
The meeting was held on the theme ‘Foster High-Quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development’.
The Union Minister mentioned the significance and important role of the BRICS Nations while combatting the global environmental and climate change challenges. The Joint Statement for the 8th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting was also adopted in the meeting after hectic deliberation among the BRICS Nations.
BRIC is an organization established in 2006 with Brazil, Russia, India, and China as its members. Later in 2008, South Africa joined the organization which was later formed as BRICS. The organization was formed with an aim to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation within the member countries. Recently India hosted the most recent 13th BRICS summit on 9 September 2021 virtually.
