The state government of Madhya Pradesh distributed an amount of Rs 1,700 crores to farmers under the 'Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan' scheme, a direct financial support scheme for the farmers in the state.
The distribution of the amount will reach 82 lakh beneficiaries across the state. This will include cash benefits of over Rs 16 crore to more than 80,000 farmers of the Indore district.
The ‘Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan Yojana was launched in January 2021 by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to provide additional financial assistance of Rs 4,000 to farmers. The amount will be distributed in two installments i.e. Rs.2000 per installment. This scheme was launched to give additional support to farmers along with the Union government’s financial support of Rs.6000 per year under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi’ scheme. With these two schemes, the farmers in the state are now getting a total of Rs 10,000 per annum as the financial support of the government.
The farmers who are paying income tax were not eligible to get financial support under this scheme and the state government requested them to return the cash benefits credited to their bank accounts. About 700 ‘ineligible farmers’ have so far returned a total of Rs 51.32 lakh cash benefits that were ‘wrongly’ credited into their accounts.
The state government also announced a scholarship for the students studying Sanskrit at Sanskrit University. The scholarship will start in July 2022. The scholarship aims to benefit the students and priests studying the Sanskrit language.
