Pieter Elbers Appointed as new CEO of Indigo Airlines

The Board of Directors of IndiGo has appointed Mr.Pieter Elbers as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the low-cost carrier Indigo airline. He will assume office on or before October 1st. It is subjected to regulatory approvals.

Since 2014, Elbers is serving as the President and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He is also a member of Air France – KLM Group’s executive committee.

After he takes the charge, he will replace Mr.Ronojoy Dutta as he will retire on September 30th of this year.

His appointment signifies that India’s most significant domestic airline will now expand its wings in the international skies.

The Tatas had recently selected Mr.Campbell Wilson — a veteran from its trusted airline partner Singapore Airlines (SIA) — as the MD and CEO of Air India. Mr.Wilson currently serves as the CEO of Scoot - SIA’s arm - and has been in the airline industry for 26 years.

His career at KLM was started in 1992 at their Schiphol hub and held several managerial positions in the Netherlands and in Japan, Greece and Italy. He also served as the senior VP of network and alliances and after 2011, he was promoted to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
