Sift Kaur Samra of India won the gold medal in individual women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) at the ISSF Junior World Cup 2022 after defeating Julie Johannessen of Norway in the final match. The positions were Prone, the Standing, and the Kneeling positions. The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup is being held in Suhl, Germany.
Ashi Chouksey of India also won the bronze medal in the event.
With this win, India’s total medal tally raised to 25 medals (10 gold, 12 silver, and 3 bronze) and ranked top on the medals table. India is followed by Italy with 8 medals in total (four gold and four bronze medals) and Poland with 4 medals in total (2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal).
The Indian men's 3P team won a silver and Anish and Vijayveer Sidhu bagged silver and bronze respectively men's 25m rapid fire pistol.
Earlier, in the Women’s 25M Pistol competition, Indian shooters Rhythm Sangwan, Manu Bhaker, and Naamaa Kapoor won gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively. Rhythm topped the round with a score of 588 while Manu was second with 584 and Naamya third with 583.
The ISSF Junior World Cup was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in 2016. As per the ISSF, a 'junior' is an athlete under the age of 21 on December 31 of the competition year. The competition covers a variety of both Olympic and non-Olympic events in rifle, pistol, and shotgun, and covers one or two competitions per year in each event.
