The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Railways in Leh - the joint capital and largest city of UT Ladakh. It was inaugurated during the function held at NIELIT Campus Leh. The centre was inaugurated as per the vision for the development of Ladakh after the formation of the region as a Union Territory.
The Minister also inaugurated the Extension Centre Kargil and IT Enabled Incubation Centre for Handicraft and Handloom Sector.
All the small hamlets/remote villages in Ladakh would be provided with telecommunication towers for saturation coverage.
The BSNL towers will be upgraded in the Union Territory from the year 2023 and the first phase will be rolled out in the month of September 2022 and in the year 2023. Even if there are ten villages on top of the hill the connectivity will be provided. All hilly states such as UT of Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh etc. would have upgraded BSNL towers.
NIELIT centre was complimented for starting the Leh and Kargil Centres and setting up of IT Enabled Incubation Centre in record time which needs to be scaled up at a faster pace.
