Nikhat Zareen Confirms India's First Medal at 2022 Women's World Boxing Championship

Nikhat Zareen, Parveen, and Manisha of India confirm the country’s first medal at the 12th edition of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships-2022 by advancing to the semifinals with a superb win. The competition is being held in Istanbul, Turkey.

Nikhat Zareen won against Charley-Sian Davison of England in the quarterfinals of the tournament under the 52kg category. Nikhat will now take on Caroline De Almeida of Brazil in the semi-finals.

Boxer Parveen moved into the Semi-finals after defeating Shoira Zulkaynarova of Tajikistan under the 63-kg category with an identical margin.

Boxer Manisha of India, on the other hand, defeated Mongolia's Namuun Monkhor in a hard-fought quarterfinal by a 4-1 split decision.

Earlier, India's first bout was between Nitu and Kazakhstan's Alua Balkibekova in the 48kg category, where the Indian boxer lost to Balkibekova with a score of 2-3. The other boxers who lost the matches were Pooja Rani (81kg), Anamika (50kg), Jasmine (60kg), and Nandini (+81kg).

The IBA World Boxing Championships is a biennial event organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA). The championships were first held for men in 1974 and the first women's championships were held in 2001.
