Novak Djokovic Wins Italian Open for 6th Time

Novak Djokovic won the Italian Open 2022 title for the sixth time after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. This is Djokovic’s first title of this year 2022. It was his sixth Italian Open title in 12 finals and won a record-extending 38th Masters 1000 title. With this win, he set himself to chase a record-equalling 21st Grand Slam at the French Open 2022.

Djokovic defeated top-10 players in three consecutive matches in Rome and Tsitsipas, ranked fifth.

In January 2022, he was deported ahead of the Australian Open after failing to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

The Serbian became the fifth man in the Open Era to earn 1,000 match wins when he defeated Casper Ruud in the semifinals.

In the women’s final, world No. 1 Iga Świątek of Poland won her 28th straight match and fifth consecutive tournament by defeating Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
