Manik Saha Takes oath as new Chief Minister of Tripura

Mr.Manik Saha of BJP has taken oath as the 11th new Chief Minister of Tripura at Raj Bhawan in Agartala. The appointment was ahead of the state assembly election to be held early next year (2023).

He has taken the charge as the Chief Minister after Mr.Biplab Kumar Deb submitted his resignation to Governor. Now, Deb will take charge as the Chief of the state’s BJP unit. Mr.Deb is the first Chief Minister of the state from the BJP, ending the 25-year-rule of the Communist Party of India in the state. 

He was not the first 'Manik' to be the chief minister of the state. Before him, CPI(M)'s Manik Sarkar served as the chief minister for 20 years till 2018. 

Mr.Saha is a maxillofacial surgeon who entered into politics by joining the Indian National Congress. Later, he joined the BJP in 2016 and was named as the BJP's Tripura unit chief in 2020. He was made in charge of the 2018 membership drive started by the saffron party before the state went to the polls.
