India's First Divyang Sensory Park Inaugurated in Bhubaneswar

The first sensory park in the country for differently-abled persons was inaugurated in Bhubaneswar’s Sahidnagar area by the Minister of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD). The first of its kind park was developed under the Smart City Project for all age groups. The inauguration was delayed due to the third wave of COVID-19.

It was developed by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) at an investment of around Rs 1 crore which covers an area of about 1,368 Sqm.

This initiative will benefit physically challenged children especially those with hearing and vision impairment. 

Facilities developed in the park are insulated pathways, playing equipment for children, an open-air gym, and other child-friendly services that comply with the universal access guideline. The other pay equipment facilities include wheelchair swings, two-seater swings, multi-line swings, single-seater spring riders, musical poles and trees, sound play, drum track, musical panel, sound play table, shoulder builder, three-seater merry-go-round (MGR), multi-seater MGR, wheelchair MGR, slides, monkey bar climber, ball pool and adventure climber among others.

The park was developed as the park is a vital component of every community and plays an important role in all stages of life to grow physically, socially, and emotionally.
