Tata Sons have appointed Mr.Campbell Wilson as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Managing Director (MD) of Air India.
Previously, he served as the CEO of Scoot two times. Scoot is a Singaporean low-cost airline and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA). At Scoot, Wilson will be replaced by Mr. Lesliue Thng, who is currently serving as senior vice president of sales and marketing, at Singapore Airlines.
Mr.Wilson started off as a management trainee with SIA in New Zealand in 1996. Then, he worked with SIA in Canada, Hong Kong and Japan. Then, he served as CEO of the firm from 2011 to 2016. He then served as the senior VP of sales & marketing of SIA, where he oversaw pricing, distribution, e-commerce, merchandising, brand & marketing, global sales and the airline’s overseas offices. He was appointed as the CEO of Scoot for the second time in 2020.
Air India recently made AirAsia India its wholly-owned subsidiary. Tata Sons formally took over Air India on January 27, 69 years after the government nationalized and took control of the airline from its founder JRD Tata in August 1953.
Tata Sons first planned to appoint Mr.Mehmet Ilker Ayci — the former chairman of Turkish Airlines - as the CEO of Air India but Mr.Ayci turned down the offer.
