Schneider Electric partnered with IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals to make cricket a sustainable sport. Rajasthan Royals become GreenYodha and play a pivotal role in transforming cricket into an environment-friendly game.
GreenYodha is a sustainability initiative by Schneider Electric that aims to build a team of conscious citizens, organizations, and businesses to unite in adopting collective climate-friendly actions and solutions. Under this initiative, the players of the team spread awareness of climate change and can also suggest methods to decrease carbon emissions.
As part of the Green Yodha sustainability initiative, the team will play the first carbon-neutral cricket match of this season on May 11. It will play against Delhi Capitals.
Schneider Electric will offset the carbon footprint generated during Rajasthan Royals’ match by planting approximately 17,000 trees. On average, an IPL match generates approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 equivalent.
Schneider Electric has also partnered with C-Balance and Nangia Andersen LLP to calculate the carbon footprint of the match.
In recent years, the carbon footprint in the game was increased because of the rising popularity and the viewership of cricket across the globe. A cricket field required 15,000-20,000 liters of water every day for the spectators as per the estimation of the World Health Organization (WHO). Numerous power consumption increases by fans and teams have resulted in an increase in carbon emissions.
To reduce this generated carbon footprint, the IPL team Rajasthan Royals fixed the vision of ‘Transforming Society through Cricket’, with a focus on sustainable practices.
