New President of the Philippines:

Ferdinand Marcos Jr has won the Presidential election in 2022 in the Philippines by a landslide winning 95% of the votes. He will be sworn in as the new President of the country in the near future. His rival was Mr.Leni Robredo.

The winning of Jr’s in the election is a rise in the culmination of a decades-long attempt to rebrand the Marcos family's name and image. He is also known as ‘Bongbong’.

His father, Ferdinand Marcos Sr, became president in 1965 and imposed martial law in 1972, and presided over a brutal regime that saw thousands of dissenters and critics jailed and killed. The late dictator’s 21-year rule in the country was marked by human rights abuses and widespread corruption. He and his family fled after a mass uprising. Mr.Marcos Sr, died in 1989.

New President of South Korea:

Yoon Suk-yeol has been sworn in as the 20th president of South Korea.

The inaugural event took place at the National Assembly compound in Seoul.

He has taken charge as the President when the country is facing an economy hit hard by the pandemic, surging home prices, and a constant threat from North Korea.
