Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated every year across India on April 30 which marks the launch date of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This day is celebrated nationally to make people aware of the mission’s twin objective - to promote health and wellness to the poor and also to provide insurance benefits to them.
The scheme is for providing health care benefits to major sections of the Indian population who cannot afford the required medical facilities for themselves.
With an aim to bring health care closer to these people, the central government announced the creation of 1.5 Lakh Health and wellness centers (HWCs). The HWCs cover both maternal and child health services, non-communicable diseases including free essential medicines and diagnostic services
The scheme was recommended to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and it was recommended in the National Health Policy in 2017.
Ayushman Bharat Yojana also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) provides various benefits with a cover of 5 lakh rupees per family to be given per year. It will provide cashless and paperless access to services for the beneficiary who will be eligible for these benefits.
