Vijay Sampla has been Appointed as the Chairperson of NCSC for a Second Time

Former Union minister Mr. Vijay Sampla has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a second time. President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind notified the official appointment order of Mr.Sampla.

Ahead of the Punjab elections, Mr.Sampla had resigned as the NCSC chairman and had contested the polls.

He is a prominent Dalit politician from Punjab, who began his political career in 1998 as the Sarpanch of Sofipind village in Jalandhar Cantonment. 

He has served in the Punjab government. He was the Chairman of the Punjab Khadi Board from 2008 to 2012 and the Chairman of Punjab State Forest Development Corporation in 2014. He was then elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and became a union minister in 2015. 

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is an Indian constitutional body that functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to provide safeguards against the exploitation of Scheduled Castes and Anglo-Indian communities to promote and protect their social, educational, economic, and cultural interests, special provisions were made in the Constitution. 

Since it is a constitutional body, Article 338 of the Indian constitution deals with National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Article 338-A deals with National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
