On the final day of the Asian Wrestling Championships-2022, India’s Deepak Punia won the silver medal in the men’s freestyle 86 kg category and Viky Chahar won a bronze medal in the 92 kg category.
India finished the tournament with a total tally of 17 medals — one gold, five silver and 11 bronze. At the previous 2021 edition which was held at Almaty, India won a total 14 medals.
In the final match, Deepak Punia was lost to Azmat Dauletbekov of Kazakhstan. This was Deepak's second consecutive silver (previously he won in 2021) and fourth continental medal, including two bronze (2019, 2020).
Under 92-kg category, Viky Chahar beat his Uzbek opponent Ajiniyaz Saparniyazov. India’s gold medal was won by the wrestler Ravi Dahiya in the men's freestyle 57kg category.
India’s Mangal Kadyan could not earn a podium finish as he lost the 61-kg bronze medal clash 4-6 to Kyrgyzstan's Ulukbek Zholdoshbekov.
The 35th edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The winner of the tournament is Iran (men’s freestyle), Kazakhstan (Men's Greco-Roman) and Japan (Women's freestyle).
