On the occasion of ‘Civil Services Day’, the Civil Aviation Ministry's flagship scheme UDAN has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration-2020 under the category 'Innovation (General) - Central'.
The award was given away by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to the UDAN team. The award consists of a trophy, scroll and an incentive of 10 lakh rupees. This year, 16 awards were given out which recognized the exemplary work done by public administrators in five priority programs.
The award was initiated in 2006 and is given to recognize the work done by districts and organizations in Public administration. This scheme emphasizes good governance, qualitative achievements, and last-mile connectivity rather than only on achievement of quantitative targets.
The Scheme has been revamped with a new approach in 2021 with the objective to encourage Constructive Competition, Innovation, Replication and Institutionalisation of Best Practices. Under this approach, the emphasis would be on good governance, qualitative achievement and last-mile connectivity, rather than only on the achievement of quantitative targets.
PM Modi released some e-books on priority programmes and the success stories of such programmes.
