Union Agriculture Minister inaugurated the ‘National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign 2022-23’ at NASC Complex, New Delhi to assess and review the crop performance during the previous crop seasons. At the conference, consultations with researchers, states, policymakers, and industries had conducted to finalize a National Policy Framework for Crop Diversification Programme.
During the financial year 2021-22, the total foodgrains production in the country was estimated at 3160 lakh tonnes - which is an all-time record. The data was given by the 2nd Advance Estimates (2021-22).
In the financial year 2022-23, the government fixed a foodgrain production target of 328 million tonnes. This target production includes 163.15 million tonnes of Kharif foodgrain production and 164.85 million tonnes of rabi foodgrain production. The targeted Kharif crops production for the financial year 2022-23 are rice (112 million tonnes), maize (23.10 million tonnes), pulses (10.55 million tonnes), and oilseeds (26.89 million tonnes).
In the last 6 years (i.e., since 2015-16), the total food grain production has increased by 25% i.e. from 251.54 to 316.01 million tonnes. The crops like wheat, cereals, rice (other than Basmati), soya meal, raw cotton, fresh vegetables, and processed vegetables, etc. have registered the most
positive growths.
