  • The largest comet ever discovered ‘Comet C/2014 UN271’ of the Oort Cloud by NASA through its Hubble Space Telescope.
  • The Comet was named the ‘Bernardinelli-Bernstein’ with the size about 80 miles wide, larger than Rhode Island.
  • The comet is 50 times larger than most known comets and its nucleus is estimated to weigh 500 trillion tons, about 100,000 times greater than most comets.
  • The comet is traveling at 22,000 mph and is headed closer to Earth in 2031.
  • A comet is an icy, small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun. The coma spreads out in the form of a long tail when the comet approaches the sun.
