  • The day is observed to commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar for his contribution to the development of India.
  • He fought for the rights of the Dalit community by raising his voice against the Indian caste system.
  • He formed the Central institution Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha to promote basic rights and education of the untouchables.
  • He is known as the Father of the Indian Constitution, Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution.
  • He was born on 14 April 1891 and Ambedkar Jayanti was observed for the first time in 1928 in Pune by his follower Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay.
