Will Smith Banned by the Academy


  • The Oscar’s best actor award winner Will Smith was banned from attending the Academy’s ceremony, both virtual and in-person, for next 10 years .
  • He was banned for his misbehaviour by slapping the 94th Oscar awards presenter Chris Rock on stage for making joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
  • He will not be able to attend next year’s ceremony as a presenter, as is the tradition at the Oscars.
  • For the first time in history of the Academy, in 2004, Actor Carmine Caridi was the first person banned from attending the Academy’s ceremony.
  • Other persons banned from the Academy - Producer Harvey Weinstein (2017), Comedian and actor Bill Cosby (2018), Director Roman Polanski (2018), cinematographer Adam Kimmel (2021).
