Tamilnadu Demanding to Withdraw CUET

NATIONAL

  • Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu urged the Union government to withdraw the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions in Central Universities.
  • Recently, University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be conducted mandatorily for admission into Central Universities from the academic year 2022-23.
  • The withdrawal of CUET was demanded as it was not a benefitting for rural and poor students of the state. This new common test will fail to provide equal opportunity to state boards educated students.
  • The common entrance test will be conducted through the ‘National Testing Agency (NTA)’.
