BBC Indian Sportswomen of The Year 2021


  • For the year 2021, ‘BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year’ was awarded to the weightlifter Mirabai Chanu. This is the third edition of the award.
  • At the Tokyo Olympics 2021, she won the Silver medal in the 49kg category. She was the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal in the Olympics.
  • The other nominees for the award - ace shuttler player PV Sindhu, golfer Aditi Ashok, boxer Loveline Borgohain, and Para-shooter Avani Lekhara to the award.
  • Other important awards:
  • BBC Emerging Player award: Cricketer Shafali Verma.
  • BBC Lifetime Achievement award: Athlete Karnam Malleshwari - first woman of the country to win an Olympic medal in Sydney Olympics in 2000.
