MGNREGA Wage Rates Revised

NATIONAL

  • For the financial year 2022-23, the Union government recently revised the wage rates under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
  • These revised rates were notified by the Ministry of Rural Development. Among the newly revised rates,
  • Goa received the 7.14% hikes - the highest percent received by state/UT. The wages increased to Rs 315 per day from Rs 294 per day in 2021-22.
  • Meghalaya received 1.77% hikes - the lowest percent received by state/UT. The wages increased to Rs 230 per day from Rs 226 per day in 2021-22.
  • Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura - the states not yet received any hikes.
  • Haryana - the state/UT provides higher wages - Rs 331 per day. It was followed by Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Madhya Pradesh - the state/UT provides lower wages - Rs 204 per day. It was preceded by Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Tripura.

Facts to know:

 

  • MGNREGA launched in 2006 to guarantee the 'right to work'.
  • The act provides minimum 100 days of wages employment to the adult member of the household.
  • Reservation for women under this act: One-Third.
  • Union Minister of Rural Development: Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar.
