Bank Frauds in The Financial Year 2020-21

BANKING AND ECONOMY

  • In the first nine months of fiscal year FY20-21, a total of Rs 34,097 crore was involved in bank frauds from 27 scheduled commercial banks and financial institutions.
  • Among the banks, Punjab National Bank (PNB) topped the list with the fraud worth of Rs 4,820 through 10 fraud cases.
  • PNB was followed by Bank of India (Rs.3925 crore), State Bank of India (Rs.3902 crore), YES Bank (Rs.3869 crore) and Canara Bank (Rs.2658 crore).
  • In the last 7 years (2015-21) banking fraud worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore was detected across the states.
  • In this case, the state topped with the banking fraud is Maharashtra. It was followed by Delhi, Telangana, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. These 5 states reported 83% of the total worth of fraud.
