The Union government decided to extend the ‘Free-Import’ policy for two varieties of crops for another year upto 31st March 2023.
The policy was extended to import of crops - Tur dal and Urad dal.
The extension of the policy will ensure the imports of two crops without restrictions for the domestic availability.
The union government introduced this policy in May 2021 for three crops - Tur, Urad, and Moong for unrestricted imports. But it ended in October 2021 only for Moong.
India imports Urad dal from Myanmar - only supplier of the crop to our country.
Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution: Mr. Piyush Goyal.
Tur dal (also known as pigeon pea) has high protein content.
Urad dal is known to boost the health of our bones.
