Electrification of Konkan Railway Lines

NATIONAL

The entire Broad-gauge 741-kilometre railway route was electrified by the Konkan Railway Corporation which runs between Maharashtra and Karnataka.
This electrification will have the following benefits - it could save Rs 150 crore on fuel, reduced diesel dependency, pollution-free transportation.
The foundation stone of the electrification project was laid in November 2015 with an aim to achieve Zero Carbon Emission.
Train operations with electrical traction will be implemented on the route in a phased manner.

Konkan Railway is a railway operated by the Konkan Railway Corporation opened in 1998.
The distance of the broad gauge of the Indian railway track: 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in).
Konkan Railway connects three states: Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.
