Agreement to Construct Patrol Vessels

NATIONAL

  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to construct 8 Fast Patrol Vessels for the Indian Coast Guard.
  • This is a boost in indigenous manufacturing in construction of the defence equipment.
  • These surface platforms will be indigenously designed, developed and manufactured by GSL under Buy (Indian-IDDM) Category.
  • The vessels have the capability to operate in shallow waters and enhance the security apparatus along the vast coastline.
  • The contract will further boost the Government’s resolve of making India a defence manufacturing hub which caters to not only the domestic needs but also the export market.

  • The Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 1st February 1977.
  • Indian Coast Guard Day: 1st February.
