Annual Frontier Report 2022


  • The Annual Frontier Report, 2022 was published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which ranked the cities based on noise pollution.
  • The Capital city of Bangladesh ‘Dhaka’ ranked as the world’s noise polluted city with a noise pollution of 119 dB (Decibels) - all top three cities are from South Asia.
  • Dhaka was followed by Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) and Islamabad (Pakistan’s capital) as the noise level measured at 114 dB and 105 dB respectively.
  • Other four other Indian cities placed in the list — Delhi (83 dB), Kolkata (89 dB), Asansol (89 dB), and Jaipur (84dB).
  • The permissible noise level limited by the World Health Organization (WHO) is 55 dB.
  • The countries from Europe and Latin America are the quietest regions in the world.

  • Headquarters of UNEP: Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Hearing 70dB noise for prolonged periods will affect the hearing power of the people.
