107 Defence Items Banned from Import


  • A fresh list of 107 defence items was released by the Department of defence production which banned the import of such items.
  • This list includes several Russian weapon sub-systems like T-90 and T-72 tanks, BMP-II infantry combat vehicles, warships and submarines, and anti-tank missiles.
  • The defence items were banned with an objective to give a boost to enhance the Make-in-India defence production.
  • Indigenisation of these items will be taken up by DPSUs under 'Make' category. to achieve self-reliant India in defence production.
  • The phased import ban between December 2022 and December 2028 will include indigenisation drive covering warships, helicopters, tanks, infantry combat vehicles, missiles, ammunition, and radars.
