World Tuberculosis Day 2022


  • Globally, World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is celebrated on 24th March every year which commemorates the day when the bacteria responsible for TB was discovered in 1882.
  • The day is observed with an aim to spread awareness about health, social and economic consequences of an infectious disease TB - one of the leading causes of death.
  • The theme fixed for the year 2022 is ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’.
  • TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers as the disease affects 28,000 and claims the lives of 4100 people per day across the globe.
  • The bacteria spread from person to person through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes.

  • Bacteria responsible for TB: Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • The bacteria were discovered by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882.
  • Primarily, the disease affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body.
