World Water Day 2022


● Globally since 1993, the World Water Day has been celebrated on 22nd March annually.
● The day is being celebrated with an aim to raise public awareness about the significance of fresh water and sustainable management of this significant resource.
● The theme fixed for the year 2022 is ‘Groundwater: Making The Invisible Visible’.
● In India, a month-long campaign ‘Water-friendly Month’ will be inaugurated in Kerala to spread the message of ‘water is life’.
● The idea for this international day was initiated in the UN's Conference on Environment and Development, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro.

 Facts to know:

● ‘Water and sanitation for all’ is the goal no. 6 of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
● ‘Jala Samrakshna Sandesha Yathra’ was started in Kerala - to collect waters from 44 rivers of the state.
● Sources for Groundwater: Rainfall, Lakes, Rivers, and Streams.
