Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and other leaders have expressed deep grief over the demise of Prof Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi, a Sanskrit Grammarian. He is known as ‘Vagish Shastri’. He is also a linguist, tantra and yogi. Prof Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi passed away at the age of 86.
Using modern scientific methods, he made Sanskrit more popular among the youth. He was born in the city of Khurai, in Madhya Pradesh in 1935.
He was honored with Padma Shri - the fourth highest civilian award - in 2018 for his work in the field of literature & education. The other prominent awards were Bāņa Bhatţţ Award (1990), Special Award (2005), Vishva Bharati Samman (2013), Yash Bharati Samman (2015), Mahakavi Kalidas Sanskrit Vrati Samman (2016), etc.,
Since his 19th age, he wrote more than 200 essays and Research papers. He has written books on different subjects including grammatical and philological research work, drama, history, poetry, satire, historical research work and metaphysical writings.
He served as the Secretary President of one section in the fifth world Sanskrit conferences.
