Lieutenant General Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon (Retd) received Param Vishisht Seva Medal from the President of India.
The President of India presented during the Gallantry Awards at Defence Investiture Ceremony 2022 Phase I at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Lt General Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon served as the Director-General of Defence Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Intelligence) under the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Gen Dhillon last served as the 48th Commander of the XV Corps of the Indian Army. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla & Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was appointed as the Colonel of the Regiment of Rajputana Rifles on September 21, 2019, when he took over from Lt Gen Abhay Krishna. He retired from Service on January 31, 2022.
The Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) is a military award of India constituted on 26 January 1960. It is awarded in recognition of peace-time service of the most exceptional order. The medal is round in shape, 35 mm in diameter and fitted to a plain horizontal bar with standard fitting. It is made of gold gilt.
The eligible forces for this award include all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces including Territorial Army, Auxiliary and Reserve Forces, Nursing officers and other members of the Nursing services and other lawfully constituted Armed Forces. The award is also awarded posthumously.
On the same day (26th January 1950), five other medals were instituted on the same day - the Sainya Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Nao Sena Medal and the Vayu Sena Medal.
