Odisha’s noted Culture Specialist and noted litterateur Dr Rajat Kumar Kar passed away at the age of 88 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The Chief Minister of the state announced that the last rites of Kar will be held with full state honors.
He was a Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award in Literature and Education category in 2021. He has immensely contributed to the revival of the dying art of Pala of Odisha.
The Padma Shri recipient was born on October 2, 1934, in Mahanga of Cuttack district of Odisha.
The litterateur was a prolific writer on Upendra Bhanja literature and has written more than 6 non-fiction books and several books based on Lord Jagannath.
An orator on Jagannath culture was also known for his commentary during the annual Ratha Jatra on TV and radio for six decades.
Lord Jagannath means 'Lord of the Universe', is a deity worshipped in regional Hindu traditions in India and Bangladesh as part of a triad along with his brother Balabhadra and sister, Devi Subhadra.
