Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of ₹20,000 crore developmental projects related to the field like electricity and connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir. This is his first visit after scrapping Article 370 of Jammu & Kashmir.
PM Modi visited Jammu & Kashmir on National Panchayati Raj Day and addressed all the Gram Sabhas across the country. Recently, for the first time the elections to the three-tier Panchayati Raj system- Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and DDC were conducted in the UT.
After Article 370 was scrapped, Rs.38,000 crore was invested in the Union Territory for the new dimensions of development. Before that, only ₹17,000 crores were invested even after 70 years of Independence. These efforts will provide employment to many youths of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following are the other projects in the Union Territory: the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway at ₹7,500 crores, and the 850 MW Rattle hydroelectric project that will be constructed on the Chenab River at ₹5,300 crores, 540MW Kwar hydroelectric project at Rs 4,500 crore, Banihal-Qazigund road tunnel at Pir Panjal range, etc.
