The long-range Sarmat, a nuclear-capable Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) was successfully test-fired World’s Most Powerful Missile from Plesetsk cosmodrome. It successfully hit a target in the Kamchatka peninsula which is nearly 6,000 km (3,700 miles) away from the origin point.
Sarmat is an anti-missile defence system designed with a short initial boost phase, giving enemy surveillance systems a tiny window to track. It is a three-stage, liquid-fuelled missile with a range of 18,000 km which measures 35.3 meters long and 3 meters in diameter and weighs up to 200 tonnes.
The world’s most powerful missile can hit any target on the Earth, has been in development since the 2000s and can deploy with 10 or more warheads on each missile. On the other hand, the missile can carry 16 smaller warheads, a combination of warheads and countermeasures, or hypersonic boost-glide vehicles.
The long-range ICBM is colloquially known as ‘Satan’ as it can penetrate any
defence system.
