2021 Tree City of The World


  • Under the ‘Tree Cities of the World’ programme, the ‘2021 Tree City of the World’ was recently announced by the UNs Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Arbor Day Foundation.
  • As per the data, ‘Mumbai’ and ‘Hyderabad’ were recognized as the ‘2021 Tree City of the World.
  • The Indian cities were recognized for their “commitment to growing and maintaining urban trees and greenery in building healthy, resilient and happy cities”.
  • Mumbai was selected for the first time and Hyderabad was selected for the second consecutive time.
  • A city is recognized as a ‘Tree City’ if it meets five core standards to show its commitment to caring for its trees and forests.
