Jallianwala Bagh Massacre


  • The historical incident of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre was remembered today (13th April).
  • The incident took place on 13th April 1919 at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab.
  • It is a protest of Indians against the arrest of pro-Indian independence leaders Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satya Pal.
  • To dissolve the protest and to punish civilians for their 'disobedience', the British troops under the Command of Gen. Dyer fired on a large crowd of unarmed Indians in Amritsar in Punjab of India.
  • The Jallianwala Bagh, which was nearly completely enclosed by walls and had only one exit claimed around 400 lives.
  • Because of this attack on Indians, Rabindranath Tagore renounced the received knighthood.
