  • The President of Sri Lanka declared a state of Emergency in the economic crisis that hit the country with an immediate effect to protect & maintain the public order in the country.
  • The emergency was declared a day after angry citizens gathered in front of his residence demanding his immediate resignation.
  • The people staged protests as the country is facing a deteriorating economic condition - insufficient supply of fuel, food, medicines and power shortage.
  • The Indian government recently agreed to supply 40000 tonnes of fuel to the island country under a Line of Credit for purchasing petroleum products.
