INAS 316 Commissioned


  • The P-8l aircraft of the Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 316 was commissioned at the INS Hansa in Goa in the presence of the Chief of the Naval Staff.
  • The Second Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 316 comprises a fleet of P-81 aircraft which will enhance the Indian Navy's surveillance power in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • INAS 316 will operate the aircraft, the sophisticated multi-role long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare (LRMR ASW) aircraft.
  • The P-8I aircraft was manufactured by US’s Boeing which is powered by twin jet engines.
  • Previously, in 2013, the Indian Navy had acquired the first batch of eight P-8I aircraft at INS Rajali, Arakkonam.
