  • The World Air Quality Report-2021 was released by IQAir, a Swiss firm based on PM2.5 data across 117 countries.
  • Under the polluted capitals category, Delhi is the most polluted capital city in the world for the fourth consecutive year. Delhi’s pollution was raised by 15% over the previous year.
  • Delhi was followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh), N'Djamena (Chad), Dushanbe (Tajikistan) and Muscat (Oman).
  • Globally, 63 Indian cities were in the top 100 polluted cities. Mostly in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
  • Bhiwadi in Rajasthan's Alwar is the most polluted regional city across the globe. It was followed by Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
  • The cleanest air measured in India is in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu.
  • According to the air quality guidelines of WHO, the safe limit of air pollution is 5 micrograms per cubic metre. But none of the Indian cities satisfied this limit.
